A.P. Greenfield was one of Queensland’s pioneer optometrists. He opened his first practice in Brisbane in 1897 and first visited Townsville in 1899. He was self trained but identified a need to improve the knowledge base of the business and sent his son, Percival W Greenfield, to London for a formal qualification. Percival returned to Queensland as one of Australia’s highest qualified optometrists. He became chief examiner of the newly formed Board of Optical Registration, a position he held until his death in 1951.
We opened our first permanently staffed practice in Flinders Street around 1915 and have been continuously serving the optical needs of Townsville since that time. In the early 20th century optometrists travelled from Townsville using trains and “White Cabs” to practice from Cairns in the North, to Mount Isa in the West and Mackay in the South.
In the 21st century we continue the traditions established by the Greenfield’s family.
Our optometrists have an excellent knowledge base and our support staff are focused on providing the highest levels of service and personal attention.
